Blog Post 29// Psalm 91 Part 5
The past few days we’ve been trekking though Psalm 91. Thanks for hanging with me. We will wrap it up this week.
He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. Psalm 91:4
One quick thing I will say here: We’ve got feathers and a shield. An interesting combination. Do you want a down comforter or do you want some battle armor?
Well, it depends on the situation, doesn’t it?
Good news, both are available.
Jesus will be like a hen covering His chickens when you need it, or he will be the Commander of the Lord’s army and open up a can when you need that! Can I remind you that you are on the same team with the most powerful being in all the universe???
He says I will cover you AND at the same time crush your enemies.
vs 5-7
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.
You shall not be afraid: Fear is not allowed in the secret place. Not only will God keep us from evil, but from the FEAR of evil.
So many are imprisoned by fear. He reminds us: you have a shield and helmet during the day, and a God who never sleeps watching over you by night.
Visible or invisible, God sees it all!
Don’t fear the arrows of the enemy. The thoughts he fires your way, the doubts, the insecurities, the lies that God is nowhere to be found or that things will never get better.
You’ve got a shield of faith to hold up—the truth of God’s word is your guard.
For the believer, the enemy’s arrows cannot hurt you.
Matthew Henry gives the reason: The arrow can’t hurt you because the point is off, the poison is out. O Death, where is your sting? That arrow is under divine direction, and will hit where God appoints it.
Does it mean that bad things will never hit me? No, unfortunately, but it does mean that the things that happen to me don’t have to hurt me. I get to choose my response.
Even the bad things can serve a purpose to see the will of God revealed on the earth and in my life.
And ultimately, even death can’t stop me, because I can lose my natural life, but the promise of everlasting life still stands.
Jesus truly took care of everything!
