Blog Post 27// Psalm 91 Part 3

I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
 my God, in Him I will trust.” Psalm 91:2

I WILL SAY. Doesn’t matter what they say. What they think. What I see. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.

Some may trust in horses and chariots, their own abilities, their possessions, their intelligence, but we will trust in the name of our God.

Watch this:

I will say of the Lord—so interesting. Not to the Lord.

I heard Bill Johnson talk about this in this way:

This is a distinguishing part of this psalm because it is the first of only two verses that actually gives us something to do.

The rest of the psalm reveals His promises, and how He responds to our obedience. But verse 2 is the place where we take action.

This action may be different than you think. In this psalm, the praise was not given directly to God. It was a declaration to be said to others.

This psalm must be spoken to others.

How many of you are problem solvers? You see a problem and you want to fix it? You have ideas flowing right away how it can be fixed.

How many are problem identifiers? You are good at pointing out the problem but you don’t have any solutions. We love you at our jobs. 🙄

How many of you ARE the problem? 😁

Pointing to a problem rarely gets us out of the problem. Right? People are hungry for solutions.

This is where we come in, the body of Christ. We must do what we can to make sure each part of the body is built up and encouraged.

I will say of the Lord is you telling others, “Can I remind you how trustworthy God is?”

He is a fortress and strong tower. Not only are we allowed admission into His presence, but we are allowed to stay as long as we’d like.

In fact, as verse 1 said (I know I know. I can’t get enough of verse 1), we can set up shop there—make it our primary residence. And under God’s protection, He will be your rest and refuge forever. He is all-sufficient. Faithful through the ages. You are in no danger of being disappointed by Him.

We are to confess these things to others.

Isaiah 35:4 says:

“Say to those with fearful hearts, ‘Be strong, do not fear;
your God will come,
 He will come with vengeance;
with divine retribution
. He will come to save you.’”

What happens in the rest of the chapter is nuts. But we’ll save that for tomorrow.
