Blog Post 26// Psalm 91 Part 2
Let’s read verse 1 again:
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1
Can I give you another angle on this Psalm?
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty
The Shadow. Go with me for a second. He doesn’t say shade. He says shadow. I like the shade. I’m not a sit in the sun kind of guy. But the shadow? Sounds a little ominous. Aren’t shadows dark places? Aren’t they dark and cold? I like “shall abide in the light—on the mountain”—not the shadow.
Corrie Ten Boom said:
Sometimes it’s dark because He is close.
It’s His nearness that causes things to be out of focus.
It’s the shadow of His presence.
What I am trying to say is don’t mistake the moment you are in by what you can naturally see.
Could it be that you are simply in His shadow? That He is closer than you think or see, protecting you from something that you can’t see?
Let me paraphrase verse 1 one more time:
Anyone who makes it their aim to stay in/live in/walk in the presence of the Holy Spirit, even when it’s dark, it will be a testimony of the Lord’s nearness.
Benjamin Hastings in Feels Like A Blessing sings:
Both love and pain have their place in the heart
So don't curse at the light while you learn from the dark.
He’s near when it’s dark. Perhaps the nearest.
