Blog Post Ten// Words, Works + Wonders

Here is what we don’t need: a form of the gospel that fits well with everyone’s opinions. We need THE gospel of Jesus Christ to be on full display—in our words, works and through signs and wonders.

Take a look at it here in Acts 4:

31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. (Words)

32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. (Works)

33 With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all…(Wonders)

All 3 are needed.

Acts 1 says you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses...

Can I point out a distinction?

You and I don’t need power to tell someone that we know Jesus. (Words)
We don’t need power to feed the hungry or give to those in need. (Works)

Those are built-ins. The default setting—expected from any believer who has been truly changed by the cross of Christ.

But power is needed if you are called upon to demonstrate the reality of the Resurrected Jesus. (Wonders)

Power is needed for a lame man to walk again.
For the man to jump up and down and praise God.
Power is needed to see cancer disappear.
For supernatural healing to happen.

Yep, that’s going to take some power.
Thank God that’s exactly what we have in the name of Jesus.
