Blog Post 50// What is it? Part 2

Read Part 1 if you missed it here.

As a kid I remember going through tough financial times. We were a family of 7 and my dad at one point was out of work 6 months when his back went out. Talk about some lean, out-of-options moments. But we’d gather and pray and worship multiple nights per week, pleading with God to come through.

One song we sang had the line:

I’m feasting on manna from Heaven, and that’s why I’m happy tonight.

We weren’t feasting yet, but we would sing it like we were, loud and proud, the harmonies flowing. The amount of times God provided was insane. There were knocks at the door with something left out front. One of us would always ask:

What is it?

It’s manna—food baskets or envelopes with money for groceries.

Mom reacting strongly on the phone—one of us asking:

What is it?
Someone just sponsored you to go to youth camp.

A few years back I had a big medical bill I didn’t know how we would ever pay.

Are you serious? I said on the phone.

My wife asked:

What is it?
Um, They are wiping the entire debt away. We don’t owe anything.

What is it? It’s manna.

God thrives in the manna moments. Not because He likes to see you suffer, but because He wants to show you some things about Himself.

You may be out of options right now, but Jesus is never out of anything. Never out of answers, never out of time, never out of power to come and rescue.

Hebrews 4:16
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

That phrase: grace to help us when we need it most, translated literally is grace for a well-timed help.

The Lord always comes through thanks to His manna, the well-timed helps that He sends at just the right moment.

The truth is, as much as we celebrate that we are independent, that we can do things on our own, it’s not true. Everyone depends on something, and everything is dependent on God.

For from Him and through Him and for Him are ALL things.
