Blog Post 34// Put Some Word On it

The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God endures forever. Isaiah 40:8

So is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11

Have you ever dug through a drawer and found something old that you forgot you had? Oh, there that is!

This is a regular occurrence in my house because my kids are hoarders. They stuff so much into every drawer and cubby.

But at some point, we’ll go through and see what we can throw or give away. We’ll find something old. A toy they forgot they even had and all of a sudden it's one of their most prized possessions. 🙄

Give me a break. I am throwing that away.

But I need it!!!

You didn't even know you had it. Now you suddenly need it so badly?

There is this renewed sense of appreciation and attention given. In a moment it becomes foundational in their lives. It gives them new focus and purpose. Sort of like what the box of Thank You cards I just found that I bought forever ago did to me.

My children are me!

Suddenly, it’s who do I need to write to and thank?

There’s a new focus and purpose for me too. Something I know I should have been doing all along lands right in front of me and I have the desire and grace to do it.

I’d like to suggest that this can be what it’s like when you open up your Bible and read the word of God.

I can’t explain it, other than what I’ve known to be true. How is it that something written thousands of years ago can revive my soul, renew my mind, and be the exact thing I need at this moment?

How? Cultural ideas come and go, trends are big, and then not so much, but this Word is both fresh and final and reverberates throughout eternity.

The short reason is that the Word of God is not just words, it’s also a person. We are not stewarding a word, we are stewarding a relationship—it’s Jesus in print.

The Bible is the only book in all of history where the author actually shows up when you read it.

Think about it.

It’s alive. He’s alive.

This week I want to give you four words. They’re simple really. You’ve probably heard them all. They’ve been in the drawer a while and for some reason, I’ve grabbed them and there’s been a new measure of faith attached to them.

I think I’m prepared to say that these four words may be the most powerful words in your Bible.

How’s that for a tease? If you don’t agree, that’s okay. Take it up with Jesus. Since they’re all His.

Why are these specific words so powerful? I think it’s because whatever you may be carrying, whatever mountain or sea is in front of you, maybe it’s a lack of purpose or excitement for the things of God, whatever it is, I believe you can put one of these words on it.

You may just be a witness to it achieving the purpose for which God sent it. Ahem. That’s from the verse above.

See you tomorrow!
