Blog Post 19// Put Your Armor On

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 6:10-11

When we put on the full armor of God, we dress like Jesus. Not Jesus with the robe and sash, but Captain Jesus. Did you know that Jesus is a captain?

  • He is the Captain of our salvation. Hebrews 2:10

  • He is the Commander of the Armies of the Lord. Joshua 5:14

  • He rides a white horse and is called Faithful and True with the armies of Heaven following Him. Revelation 19:14

I like Captain Jesus. I like sword-drawn, defeat-the-enemy Jesus.

So every day I try and dress like Him. How? By putting on the full armor of God. I may spend more time on this in the coming days. But for now, this is what this looks like for me. I pray through all the articles of Ephesians 6:14-18.

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist//

We gird ourselves with the truth. Jesus is the way, the TRUTH, the life.

With the breastplate of righteousness in place//

Yes, I know Christ, but I know who I am in Christ and I stand for righteousness.

The shoes fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace//

My shoes are tied and ready. It’s a gospel that must be preached. It must be presented. It’s not a quiet gospel. It is the answer to all the issues around us.

The Shield of Faith//

The enemy is shooting at you constantly. Hold up that shield! The arrows come in many forms: Random remarks from people; feeling like you are being overlooked; disappointment; offense. Hold that shield up high and stop getting wounded.

The Helmet of Salvation//

You’ve got supernatural protection for your mind. Don’t let your joy be robbed any longer. Don’t let the enemy chip away at your foundation. Remind him you are delivered, free, healed, and of a sound mind because of the cross of Jesus.

“You don’t know what I’ve been through.”

No, but I know what Christ went through so that you could rise above the shame and defeat.

I know that the mind is the devil’s playground. If you can get your mind right, you can get your life right.

But it’s not just a battle of defense, where you have to fend things off all the time.

Grab a hold of that Sword of the Spirit//

The word of God is your weapon! It’s double-edged, sharp, and never misses!

Don’t just accept the lies that come at you. Respond. Counterpunch by declaring the Word over any and every problem—any and every person.

If you can learn this, you and the Captain will take much ground. You’ll also take your foot and crush that skinny little serpent’s head.

His teeth have been removed. He has no power over you.

So get up, get dressed, and get after it. God’s armor is the new black.
