Blog Post 14// One Way to Read the Bible
Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the LORD,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:28-31
This is one of the ways I read the Bible. I’ll see what words/phrases stand out and then dig in a little deeper to what the words mean. I’ll show you:
But those who wait: Intensely focus/look for/like waiting for something to come in the mail/abiding in Him so that they
Shall renew their strength: Exchange for something else/my thoughts for His thoughts/my words for His/my plan for His/my strength for His.
They shall mount up: Rouse/stir up/wake up/get up and go over/exceed/go beyond what is typically allowed/like eagles, an up-in-the-sky/heaven perspective
They shall run: Uh, run means run/not slowing up/speeding up
They shall walk: Going and growing/leading the way/purpose in every step.
After I define the words, I put them all together and read it through again. Let me declare this over you in Jesus’ name:
Can I remind you, that though we might get tired, God never does? His ways are so beyond ours, His mind a mystery, but He will let us in on some secrets if we give our spirits the reins back.
He’s got power for days—never runs out, always looking to increase ours, too, so that we shine like Jesus, talk like Jesus, live like Jesus, think like Jesus, decide to strengthen ourselves in Jesus.
But here’s the key…(30 more seconds I promise)
This is for those who are intently focused on the Lord, looking for Him, waiting for Him, expecting more.
Not waiting for someone to do it for me—so tied up with Him in double and triple knots you can’t be untied.
That’s when the exchange happens—the renewal happens, the flow from His heart to yours, His mind to yours, where there is no limit to His life and peace and power.
Impossible? God doesn’t know that word and neither do I anymore.
Mountains of disease, doubt, discouragement, grief?
Have you forgotten? I am like an eagle—I’m going up and over what is typically allowed. This mountain looks like an ant pile.
I see things differently from up here, seated in heavenly places.
I’m alive for the thrill of bringing Heaven to earth, going, not slowing, gaining some momentum, feeling the rush of the race that I am in.
I’m walking with confidence, purpose and supernatural strength, asking what He wants, when He wants it and leaving nothing on the field when I finish.
Amen?
Amen.
